Aito to Open Pre-Sales of Updated M8 SUV on September 30 With L3-Ready Architecture

• The updated model will come standard with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 across the lineup, with the battery-electric version offering a range of up to 830 km.

Huawei-backed Aito said on September 27 that it will open pre-sales for the updated M8 on September 30, marking a major refresh for the SUV.

The updated model features architecture designed for Level 3 autonomous driving across the lineup, along with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 and a next-generation omnidirectional sensor-fusion system, the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) said in a Weibo post.

HIMA stressed that Aito remains a member of the alliance and that the updated M8 was jointly designed and developed by Seres (HKEX: 9927) and Huawei.

Earlier this month, HIMA announced that Aito would explore a new cooperation model within the alliance, led by Seres with support from Huawei. The move raised concerns about reduced backing from Huawei and a diminished role for Aito within HIMA.

The updated Aito M8 will continue to offer 5-seat and 6-seat configurations, according to its regulatory filing.

Its dimensions remain unchanged at 5,190 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,795 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,105 mm.

The SUV will continue to offer extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) options, with some changes to specifications.

The EREV version features a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and dual motors. The engine has a maximum output of 118 kW, while the front and rear motors deliver peak outputs of 170 kW and 227 kW, respectively.

It offers battery capacities of 75.408 kWh and 56.036 kWh. The larger pack provides electric-only ranges of 365 km or 358 km, depending on the configuration, while the smaller pack offers 256 km.

The BEV version has front and rear motors with peak outputs of 160 kW and 227 kW, respectively. It offers battery capacities of 120.04 kWh and 97.644 kWh, with a maximum range of 830 km.

The M8 is among Aito's key sales drivers, with cumulative deliveries exceeding 180,000 units as of August 6.

The model was first launched in April 2025, initially available only as an EREV. The battery-electric M8 followed in August 2025.

Aito had already updated the M8 at Huawei's spring product launch event in March, primarily adding exterior color options. The model currently starts at 359,800 yuan ($53,370) in China.
