BMW iX3 Hits 100,000 European Orders, Account for 1 in 3 BMW EV Sales

A year after it went on sale, BMW said the new iX3 has received over 100,000 orders in Europe alone, accounting for about 1 in 3 EV orders.

BMW’s Neue Klasse, or “new class” vehicles, appear to be off to a promising start. After launching the new iX3 last September, BMW’s former CEO Oliver Zipse said the electric SUV received 50,000 orders in six months.

According to the latest update, the new bmw-ix3" class="tag-link text-primary font-medium">BMW iX3 has now secured 100,000 orders, and that’s just in Europe.

“100,000 orders within a year is a fantastic start for the New Class,” said Jochen Goller, who oversees BMW’s global sales, brand management, and marketing.

German news outlet Der Spiegel reported on Tuesday that BMW said the iX3 accounts for about one in three electric car orders since it launched last September.

That’s the best start for a new BMW vehicle in its first year ever. The electric SUV accounts for roughly half of orders for the X3 lineup.

BMW is seeing strong initial demand outside of Europe, in major markets like China. The new iX3 went on sale in China last month, starting at 269,900 yuan, or about $40,000.

Several BMW dealers told 36Kr that “Once the pre-sale price was announced, the sales team has barely stopped working,” and that “there are just too many interested users” to keep up. In just under a week, the new iX3 reportedly secured “tens of thousands” of small blind pre-orders.

We will have to wait for BMW to release official sales numbers, but the first Neue Klasse vehicle could be key as the luxury automaker looks to compete with EV leaders such as Tesla and BYD.

As the first EV on its Neue Klasse platform and the first to use its sixth-generation eDrive (Gen6) architecture, the iX3 is a step change from BMW’s first-generation electric vehicles.

Thanks to the new Gen6 eDrive, an 800V electrical architecture, and advanced new cylindrical battery cells, the Neue Klasse vehicles deliver 30% faster charging speeds and a 30% improvement in driving range, BMW said.

With DC fast-charging up to 400 kW, the new bmw-ix3" class="tag-link text-primary font-medium">BMW iX3 can charge from 10% to 80% in about 21 minutes.

The bmw-ix3" class="tag-link text-primary font-medium">BMW iX3 40 is available in Germany, starting at €63,400 ($73,000), with a WLTP driving range of 628 km (390 miles). BMW also offers the iX3 50 xDrive, which starts at €73,925 ($85,200) and offers a driving range of up to 805 km (500 miles).

In the US, the 2027 bmw-ix3" class="tag-link text-primary font-medium">BMW iX3 50 xDrive starts at $61,500 with an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 434 miles.

BMW will open orders for the i3 later this month, the second EV from the lineup. The company said the new i3 is also seeing stronger-than-expected initial demand.

By the end of 2027, the company plans to introduce 40 new and updated vehicles with the Neue Klasse tech and design.
