BYD (HKEX: 1211) has unveiled the interior of its third-generation Tang, revealing more details of the 5-seat SUV ahead of its planned fourth-quarter launch.
Lu Tian, general manager of sales for BYD's Dynasty lineup, said on Weibo on Thursday, that the interior design was inspired by spaceship control consoles in science-fiction movies.
The third-generation Tang offers 2 interior color options: Dune Beige and Amber Brown. Positioned as the Dynasty lineup' technology-focused 8-series flagship, the SUV features a flexible cabin designed to accommodate different travel needs, Lu said.
The vehicle features a 35.4-inch integrated far-side display and a 30-inch panoramic screen, replacing the traditional instrument cluster and head-up display (HUD).
Second-row legroom exceeds 1,000 mm, while the seats offer a maximum recline angle of 130 degrees, underscoring the 5-seat model's focus on rear-passenger space.
The interior reveal continues BYD's promotional roll-out for the third-generation Tang, which began in August. The midsize-to-large 5-seat SUV made its debut at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21.
The third-generation Tang measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. It will join the 9-series Da Tang, launched in June, to form the Dynasty lineup' dual-flagship SUV lineup.
According to previously released information, the vehicle features BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology, offering a CLTC range of up to 850 kilometers.
At normal temperatures, charging from 10% to 70% takes about 5 minutes, while reaching 97% takes about 9 minutes. All variants come standard with the God's Eye B driver-assistance system and the DiSus-A intelligent air body control system.
The Tang family's refresh is part of BYD's effort to revitalize a product line that previously suffered a sharp sales decline amid a lack of major updates.
The Tang series sold 81,614 vehicles from January through August this year, down 49.87% from a year earlier, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. The launches of the Da Tang and third-generation Tang will broaden the family's coverage of the large SUV market.
