University at Buffalo adds 8 electric buses to Stampede fleet, installs 10 chargers

The University at Buffalo has added eight 40-foot battery-electric buses to its UB Stampede transit fleet, which carries roughly 16,000 passengers daily. The project, developed with WeDriveU and Zenobē, includes ten chargers and supports UB's goal of a zero-emissions campus by 2030.

The University at Buffalo, a New York State flagship university with 30,000 students, recently added eight new 40-foot battery-electric transit buses to its UB Stampede fleet, which serves some 16,000 passengers each day.

The university undertook the project in collaboration with campus transportation provider WeDriveU and fleet electrification specialist Zenobē.

Ten chargers have been installed at WeDriveU’s Buffalo customer service center, which supports the UB Stampede fleet. The university plans to fully electrify its bus fleet as part of its road map for a zero-emissions campus by 2030, well ahead of the 2045 deadline set under New York Executive Order 22 for state-operated heavy-duty vehicles.

“Our goal is to provide safe, reliable transportation while continuing to reduce our environmental impact,” said Christopher Austin, UB Director of Parking and Transportation. “These buses help us do both. They improve the rider experience today and represent another investment in the future of mobility at UB.”
