Summary

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council will deploy 564 residential AC chargers with 1,128 sockets in three phases through March 2029, supported by £16.5m from the UK's LEVI fund and private investment. The network, delivered by Connected Kerb, targets EV drivers without off-street parking across the conurbation and wider Dorset.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council plans to roll out the infrastructure in three phases through March 2029, with charging provider Connected Kerb responsible for delivery. The project will focus on AC chargers in residential areas, particularly for EV drivers without access to private charging.

The first phase will comprise 150 chargers with 300 sockets, scheduled for installation by 31 March 2027. A further 204 chargers offering 408 sockets are due by 31 March 2028, followed by 210 chargers with 420 sockets by 31 March 2029. In total, the programme will provide 564 chargers and 1,128 publicly accessible sockets.

The rollout forms part of a £16.5 million project financed through the UK Department for Transport’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund and private-sector investment. The programme also covers the wider Dorset region.

“We want people to be empowered we are trying to help the people who don’t have an on-street parking space,” said Councillor Andy Hadley, BCP Council cabinet member for climate response, environment and energy. “It’s about having lower speed chargers in residential areas and for visitors to be able to charge more economically than the fast chargers.”

BCP Council has already identified potential locations throughout the conurbation and intends to expand the network progressively. Howerver, “the team has been really careful in trying to avoid spots right outside people’s front doors,” Hadley added.
