EVgo and GM open flagship fast-charging site in Michigan, plan 100+ stalls by year-end
Summary
EVgo and General Motors have launched a new flagship charging station near GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, featuring 12 stalls with up to 350 kW output and support for both CCS and NACS connectors. The companies plan to open several more flagship sites across six states, with over 100 stalls expected live by the end of the year.
Located close to GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, the new charging station features 12 charging stalls capable of delivering up to 350 kW via both CCS and NACS sockets. The site also features an overhead canopy and pull-through access for towing vehicles. According to EVgo, a vehicle can receive a full charge in as little as 15 minutes at the site, depending on its charging capability and other conditions.
The Warren site is one of many planned ‘flagship’ locations which EVgo says are designed to offer a more convenient charging experience, with high-powered chargers, enhanced lighting, and an increased number of charging stalls. William Hotchkiss, head of public charging at General Motors, commented: “By expanding access to reliable, high-power charging in convenient locations, we’re making the choice to purchase or lease GM’s twelve different EV models easier.”
According to the company, its flagship sites will average up to 20 charging stalls and will be located close to shops, restaurants, supermarkets and other amenities. The firm plans to build further sites in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and Texas, and expects over 100 ‘flagship’ stalls to be live by the end of the year.
It marks an expansion of the wider charging partnership which has seen EVgo deploy around 2400 charging stalls across 32 US states with GM’s support. Under a separate fast-charging collaboration, EVgo, GM and Pilot Company have also surpassed 1300 charging stalls at 300 locations across 40 states.
