AM Batteries’ proprietary Powder to Electrode™ platform will help drive lower-cost, higher-performance battery production at commercial scale
BILLERICA, Mass., Aug. 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — AM Batteries, a leader in dry battery-electrode (DBE) manufacturing technology, announced today its role as a core subrecipient of a $50 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Manufacturing Deployment Office (MDO) under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
The project, led by Coreshell Technologies, aims to build out approximately 2 gigawatt-hours of electrode manufacturing capacity and 1.5 gigawatt-hours of cell assembly capacity here in the United States. The initiative will establish a resilient domestic battery supply chain while creating more than 100 domestic jobs across production, technical, and administrative roles.
AM Batteries is contributing its dry-coating process for cathode manufacturing, eliminating energy-intensive solvent-based wet coating and toxic solvent-recovery infrastructure. By combining AM Batteries’ dry Powder to Electrode™ platform with advanced material integration, the partnership significantly reduces capital and operational costs while enabling higher-performance, lower-cost cells for domestic electric vehicle and defense applications.

Traditional lithium-ion battery manufacturing relies heavily on wet-slurry casting, which requires massive drying ovens and toxic solvents. AM Batteries’ dry-electrode process eliminates these steps entirely, cutting electrode manufacturing CAPEX by up to 40%, reducing OPEX by over 50%, and significantly lowering the carbon footprint of battery plants.
