Volkswagen to deliver electric Tiguan as part of EV rebranding plan
Summary
VW continues its new naming strategy for electric vehicles, with the best-selling Tiguan to go electric under its own name rather than a number.
German automaker Volkswagen says its best-selling Tiguan mid-size SUV will be going electric, arriving in markets at the start of next year to replace the ID.4 and ID.5 in the company’s electric lineup.
The company had launched its EV range with a series of numbers following the ID initials, but following the recent launches of the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, Volkswagen confirmed this week that it would continue its new naming strategy with its next model, the ID. Tiguan.
Volkswagen said that it will officially premiere the ID. Tiguan in early October before it begins arriving in certain markets at the start of next year. The arrival of the electric ID. Tiguan will complement the existing combustion and hybrid models already available.
Until its official debut, Volkswagen said the ID. Tiguan will continue testing under camouflage wrap.

“More than 8.3 million Tiguan vehicles produced demonstrate the strength and trust associated with this model name,” said Thomas Schäfer, Volkswagen brand CEO. “The Tiguan represents a versatile, premium vehicle and embodies the essence of True Volkswagen.
“With the ID. Tiguan, we are carrying this product promise into the electric future. The all-electric model builds on the strengths of the bestseller and offers premium design, generous space, intuitive operation and innovative technologies. Together, both models form a strong offering for our customers’ different powertrain preferences.”
