Nio's Firefly launches 60-kWh battery pack, boosting CLTC range to 560 km
Summary
Firefly, Nio's compact EV brand, has introduced a 60-kWh battery option that raises CLTC range from 420 km to 560 km, a 33% increase. New buyers can order the pack, while existing owners can upgrade permanently for 17,000 yuan ($2,530) or via a BaaS service fee.

- Both new and existing owners can opt for the larger battery, with the permanent upgrade priced at 17,000 yuan ($2,530) for owners who bought the vehicle outright.
- CLTC range rises about 33% from the standard pack, while battery size and vehicle curb weight remain unchanged.
Firefly, the small electric vehicle brand under Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO), has launched a 60-kWh battery pack, offering new and existing owners a longer-range option that extends the reach of the compact city car.
Firefly said on Friday that owners who bought the vehicle outright can permanently upgrade from the standard 42-kWh battery to the 60-kWh pack for a price difference of 17,000 yuan ($2,530).
The new battery raises the CLTC range to 560 km from 420 km, an increase of 140 km, or about 33%. The model was previously available only with the 42-kWh battery.
The update adds a battery capacity option to the same model. New buyers can select the 60-kWh battery when placing orders, while vehicles already delivered can be upgraded through a battery swap.
The upgrade allows Firefly to offer battery options with different capacities, just like Nio Inc's other two brands. Currently, the Nio main brand offers 75 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs, while Onvo offers 60 kWh and 85 kWh battery packs.

Under the plan Firefly announced, existing owners who purchased the vehicle outright must apply for the permanent battery upgrade at least 1 year after the purchase invoice date, with the upgrade price difference set at 17,000 yuan.
Existing users on the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) plan pay a permanent upgrade service fee of 3,000 yuan, and the battery rental fee after the upgrade is 599 yuan per month, compared with 399 yuan for the 42-kWh version.
The brand is also offering a limited-time upgrade promotion: eligible BaaS users can claim a 1,000-yuan service fee coupon, lowering the actual upgrade service fee to 2,000 yuan, while owners who bought the vehicle outright receive 20,000 credit points worth the same value.
The offers apply to first owners who locked in orders for vehicles with the 42-kWh battery on or before October 22, 2026, and require the permanent upgrade to be completed on or before December 31, 2027.
For new buyers, the Firefly with the 60-kWh battery starts at 136,800 yuan when purchased outright. Under the BaaS plan, the starting price is 79,800 yuan, with a monthly battery rental fee of 599 yuan.
Firefly said the new battery uses ternary lithium cells, increasing capacity while keeping the battery size and vehicle curb weight unchanged.
The standard-range 42-kWh battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. Both battery versions accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
The 2 battery capacities use a compatible standardized module design, with the same housing dimensions, mounting points and locking mechanism, allowing existing vehicles to be upgraded without replacing the entire car.
The update extends Firefly's expansion of its energy replenishment services. The brand gained access to Nio's fifth-generation battery swap stations for the first time on August 7, having previously been unable to use fourth-generation stations because of its shorter body and wheelbase.
Firefly's current sole model, which shares the brand's name, launched in China in April 2025. The brand targets the small EV segment, competing with brands including Mini and Smart.
The expanded battery lineup comes as Firefly's deliveries continue to grow. The brand announced on October 16 that cumulative deliveries reached 90,000 units, about 1.5 months after hitting 80,000 at the end of August.
According to data compiled by CnEVPost, Firefly delivered 7,327 vehicles in September, up 26.87% year-on-year and 25.21% month-on-month, a monthly record. Deliveries in the first 9 months of the year totaled 48,122 units.
