Xpeng reveals G9L interior with 'first-class cabin' tech and displays

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) revealed interior details of the G9L SUV (sport utility vehicle) on Tuesday, paving the way for the five-seat flagship aimed at global markets.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker began teasing the G9L on Monday, positioning it as a "technology benchmark" in China's 300,000-yuan ($44,180) segment.

The G9L's cabin adopts a "Starry Universe First-Class Cabin" design, paired with a new "Sahara Orange" interior color scheme and translucent velvet-textured leather, Xpeng said today.

The vehicle offers 5.1 square meters of usable space, more than 1 square meter per occupant, with the widest second-row reclining space in its class, the company said.

Inside are AI-adaptive zero-gravity seats, a smart rear-row executive console with four motors, and the same onboard fridge found in the flagship GX SUV.

Displays are a focus of the pitch. The G9L comes with an 88-inch AR-HUD that Xpeng said is the largest image format in its class, with sustained brightness of 12,000 nits and static distortion of no more than 1 percent.

The rear gets a 21.4-inch 3K touchscreen infotainment display with a 7.4-millimeter bezel and a 92% screen-to-body ratio. It carries TÜV Rheinland low blue light eye-care certification and can be adjusted continuously across a 75-degree range.

Other details include a 9-inch streaming rearview mirror with 1080P resolution that adapts its exposure to vehicle speed and ambient brightness.

The center area uses a "floating console" design with two 50-watt smart pop-up wireless charging pads and dual connected cup holders.

Xpeng also said the G9L is equipped with powered physical sunshades on three sides.

The company has yet to announce pricing or a launch date for the G9L, saying only that it will disclose more details in stages.

The G9L is 5,120 millimeters long with a 3,100-millimeter wheelbase and a curb weight of about 2.72 tons, according to the model's filing with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

It uses an 800-volt platform, with Xpeng saying it can add 450 kilometers of range in 9 minutes.

The vehicle has effective computing power of up to 2,250 TOPS and will debut a major upgrade of Xpeng's second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model.

The G9L will also be offered as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), continuing Xpeng's dual-powertrain strategy, according to its filing.

Xpeng launched the six-seat flagship GX SUV on May 20 with a starting price of 279,800 yuan. The company positions the G9L and the GX as its twin flagships, with the former a large five-seat SUV, to serve different groups of buyers.

Xpeng delivered 38,027 vehicles globally in July, up 3.57% year-on-year but down 5.23% from June, according to data released on August 1.

In the first seven months of the year, the company delivered 204,004 vehicles, down 12.78% year-on-year.
