Summary

Dongfeng Nissan has confirmed the NX7 plug-in hybrid SUV is coming soon, making it the fourth model in its N series and the second SUV after the NX8. The NX7 packs a 40.9-kWh CATL battery, a 1.5-liter engine with a 170 kW motor, up to 225 km of electric range and urban NOA via roof-mounted LiDAR, and is expected to undercut the NX8's roughly $23,800 starting price in China.

  • The NX7 will be the second SUV in the N series and is expected to be priced below the NX8, which starts at about $23,800 in China.
  • The NX7 features a 40.9-kWh CATL battery and LiDAR, and supports urban NOA.

Dongfeng Nissan, Nissan's joint venture in China, announced on Tuesday that the NX7 is coming soon, laying the final groundwork for the model's official launch.

Dongfeng Nissan released a poster calling the NX7 hybrid SUV "a smart, zero-pressure SUV for young people," but did not reveal a specific launch date.

This is the latest development since the company teased the NX7 and released official images of it in early August. The vehicle will be the fourth model in Nissan's N series and the second SUV after the NX8.

The NX7 is 4,785 mm long, 1,932 mm wide and 1,665 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,815 mm, and it has a 5-seat layout, according to previously released information.

Dongfeng Nissan previously said the model offers outstanding space utilization and comfortable seating in both the front and rear rows, catering to both daily commutes and trips with friends.

The vehicle is equipped with a 40.9-kWh battery from CATL (HKEX: 3750), which is claimed to cover a week of daily driving on a single charge.

Regulatory filings show that the NX7 is a plug-in hybrid with a 1.5-liter engine and a drive motor with peak power of 170 kW (228 hp), as well as all-electric range of 220 or 225 kilometers.

The vehicle has a roof-mounted LiDAR and supports urban NOA (navigate on autopilot), targeting scenarios including stop-and-go traffic, intersections and driving across cities.

Judging by the naming and dimensions, the NX7 sits below the NX8, which is 4,870 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,917 mm and was launched on April 8 this year.

The NX8 has official guide prices of 159,900 yuan ($23,800) to 209,900 yuan, with a starting price of 149,900 yuan after limited-time incentives. The NX7 is expected to be priced below that range.

Models currently on sale in the N series include the all-electric N7 sedan, the plug-in hybrid N6 sedan and the NX8 SUV. With the addition of the NX7, Dongfeng Nissan will have 2 offerings each in the NEV sedan and SUV segments.

Dongfeng Nissan rolled out an updated N7 on September 22, with the limited-time starting price lowered to 109,900 yuan.
