  • The off-road SUV gains driver-assistance and cabin upgrades while retaining plug-in hybrid and gasoline options.
  • The 2027 Tank 500 arrives as the Tank brand faces sales pressure.

GWM's (HKEX: 2333) Tank brand launched the 2027 Tank 500 on Friday, upgrading the off-road SUV's driver-assistance systems and cabin while retaining plug-in hybrid and gasoline options.

Prices range from 335,000 yuan ($49,866) to 375,000 yuan, unchanged from the previous facelift launched in August 2025. The model-year update covers 3 powertrain options: Hi4-T, Hi4-Z and 3.0T.

Among the plug-in hybrids, the base Hi4-T costs 335,000 yuan, the Hi4-T Zhixiang edition is priced at 355,000 yuan, and the Hi4-Z Zhixiang edition costs 375,000 yuan.

The 3.0T gasoline model features a 48V mild-hybrid system, with the 5-seat version priced at 355,000 yuan and the 7-seat version at 363,000 yuan, offering an alternative seating layout to the plug-in hybrids.

Tank said the updated model includes 296 upgrades across hardware, software and safety redundancy, with changes focused on driver assistance, the cabin experience and safety features.

The Hi4-T and Hi4-Z Zhixiang editions feature the Coffee Pilot 4 driver-assistance system, powered by Nvidia's Thor-U chip and a VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model, along with LiDAR.

The driver-assistance chip in these 2 variants delivers 700 TOPS of computing power. Their sensors include 1 LiDAR unit, 3 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 11 cameras.

By comparison, the 2 higher-spec plug-in hybrid variants launched in August 2025 used Nvidia's Orin-X chip and the third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra driver-assistance system.

The new Zhixiang editions support urban and highway NOA (Navigation on Autopilot), parking-space-to-parking-space assisted driving and voice-command vehicle control. The base Hi4-T and 3.0T models use Coffee Pilot 2 and do not have LiDAR.

Cabin upgrades include dual 15.6-inch displays, a 22-speaker audio system, power-folding front leg rests, rear tray tables and a bed mode.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain configurations remain unchanged. The Hi4-T combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, a single electric motor and a 9HAT transmission, delivering a combined output of 310 kW (416 hp) with a focus on off-road use.

The Hi4-T has a 37.1-kWh battery and a WLTC electric range of 110 kilometers (68 miles). The Hi4-Z pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 2 electric motors and a 3-speed DHT transmission, producing a combined 635 kW.

The Hi4-Z features a 59.05-kWh battery and a WLTC electric range of 201 kilometers. Battery capacities and electric ranges for both plug-in hybrid powertrains are unchanged from the versions launched in August 2025.

The launch comes as the Tank brand faces sales pressure. Its September sales fell 29.21% year-on-year to 15,178 vehicles, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In the first 9 months of this year, Tank's cumulative sales declined 13.53% to 142,796 vehicles.
