Co-located battery storage share of new US utility-scale solar jumps to over 16% in 2026

More than 16% of new utility-scale solar capacity added in the US this year is co-located with battery storage, up from 2% in 2017, according to EIA data. Co-location lets operators shift solar output to capture higher wholesale prices, and planned shares are set to exceed 30% by 2027-2028.
