Volvo's 50-Ton EC500 Electric Excavator Runs on Grid Power Without Recharging
Volvo has begun real-world testing of its 50-ton EC500 Electric excavator, which matches diesel performance and can run continuously via a 35-meter cable reel connected to grid power. Pre-production units are working in Norwegian quarries, road building, and tunneling, with the production version set for Spring 2027.
