Can Five Alternative Aviation Fuels Ease Tight Jet Fuel Supplies?
A new NASA-funded study from the National Laboratory of the Rockies evaluates five emerging aviation fuels—including SAF, liquid hydrogen, LNG, ethane, and Jet X—as potential replacements for Jet A to reduce supply chain shocks. As jet fuel demand is projected to grow from 100 billion gallons in 2025 to 165 billion by 2050, these fuels could offer domestic production alternatives to imported oil.
