Study: Scrapping Old Petrol Cars for EVs Cuts CO2 Emissions in Most Cases
New research from UCSC shows that replacing an internal combustion engine vehicle with a battery-electric car almost always significantly reduces lifecycle CO2 emissions, even if the petrol car is only one or two years old—provided the old vehicle is scrapped rather than resold. The analysis of over 400 scenarios found EVs typically offset their production emissions within about three years of use.
