BYD Previews Larger Second-Gen Seal 07 Sedan With Electric and Plug-In Hybrid Options

• The second-generation Seal 07 features a new exterior design, with its length increased to 5,080 mm.

BYD (HKEX: 1211) has unveiled the exterior of its second-generation Seal 07 sedan, teasing a larger model that will offer both electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD's Ocean lineup sales division, posted images of the new model on Weibo on Monday, positioning it as a well-equipped mid-to-large-size family sedan. The preview did not disclose pricing or a launch date.

Official images show the second-generation Seal 07 with a more sharply styled front end and redesigned daytime running lights, along with a fastback profile and a full-width rear light bar.

The vehicle shown also features semi-concealed door handles and roof-mounted LiDAR, though the announcement did not detail driver-assistance functions or equipment across variants.

The new model previously appeared in a vehicle filing catalog released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on August 7, covering electric and plug-in hybrid variants, all with 5 seats.

It measures 5,080 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm, making it larger than the Seal 07 EV launched in March this year.

Compared with the battery-electric model, the second-generation Seal 07 is 85 mm longer and 50 mm wider, with a wheelbase extended by 60 mm. Its height is unchanged.

The filings showed that the new electric version will offer peak motor outputs of 245 kW and 300 kW, both higher than the 240 kW motor used in the earlier Seal 07 EV.

Both electric variants use lithium iron phosphate batteries and have a top speed of 240 km/h, while the plug-in hybrid version retains the Seal 07 DM-i name.

The preview comes about 7 months after the Seal 07 EV's launch. BYD launched the electric sedan on March 5 with 2 variants, starting at 169,900 yuan ($25,210) and 189,900 yuan, respectively.

The Seal 07 EV launched in March features a 69-kWh second-generation Blade Battery and a range of up to 705 km. It was also among BYD's first models to adopt its new-generation flash charging technology.

The plug-in hybrid lineup was updated with the 2026 Seal 07 DM-i in September 2025, offering 4 variants at launch with starting prices ranging from 149,800 yuan to 186,800 yuan.
