BYD Releases Interior Sketches of Second-Gen Seagull EV, Showing Minimalist Cabin Redesign

BYD (HKEX: 1211) released interior design sketches of the second-generation Seagull on Thursday, continuing to tease the next generation of its small electric vehicle.

The sketches, shared on Weibo by Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD's Ocean lineup sales division, show a minimalist cabin with a dashboard dominated by straight lines and a new 2-spoke steering wheel.

The second-generation Seagull retains a large floating central touchscreen but drops the digital dashboard.

The center console retains an open storage area underneath to make better use of cabin space and features wireless phone charging and 2 front cupholders. The number of storage compartments has also seemed to have increased.

Zhang said on Weibo that more information would be released soon. He has yet to disclose a launch date or pricing.

The latest preview follows BYD's release of exterior design sketches on September 22, which showed a new front-end design and trident-style lights.

According to regulatory filings previously released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the second-generation Seagull measures 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.

Compared with the current model, it is 425 mm longer and has a 150 mm longer wheelbase. Seating capacity increases from 4 to 5, bringing its size closer to that of the Dolphin.

Both variants in the filings are powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum output of 95 kW (127 hp), up from 55 kW in the previous generation, and use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.

Of the 2 variants, 1 offers optional LiDAR and front, rear and side radar sensors. BYD already introduced a LiDAR option on the 2026 Seagull launched in May.

The Seagull is a key sales driver for BYD's Ocean lineup, with the current model priced from 69,900 yuan ($10,360) to 85,900 yuan.

The model sold 529,537 units in 2025, with cumulative sales exceeding 1.5 million from its launch in April 2023 through the end of August this year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Seagull sales reached 36,106 units in August, up 5.56% from a year earlier, ending a streak of 12 consecutive months of year-on-year declines.

However, sales in the first 8 months of this year totaled 227,251 units, down 37.50% from a year earlier.
