Summary

Emaldo has launched a DC fast charging site along Sweden's E22 highway that pairs two ZOE 180 kW chargers with on-site solar and 218 kWh of integrated battery storage. The setup delivers 360 kW of combined charging capacity from a modest 63 A grid connection, showing how storage can overcome rural grid limits.

Energy storage specialist Emaldo has opened a new DC fast charging site in Rockneby, Sweden. Located along the E22 highway, the site uses the Z BOX-EV technology concept, an integrated energy storage and EV charging solution from ZOE Energy Storage.

Two ZOE DC fast chargers from the Z Box-EV series are supported by on-site solar generation and Emaldo’s integrated energy storage and management system. Each charger delivers up to 180 kW of power and is backed by 218 kWh of integrated battery storage. The integrated energy storage feature makes it possible for the chargers to provide 360 kW of combined DC charging capacity, although the site has only a modest 63 A grid connection.

As the company explains, deploying high-power charging infrastructure outside urban hubs frequently faces severe grid capacity limitations and prohibitive connection costs. Emaldo addresses these challenges by pairing fast charging with localized battery storage and dynamic power management. The installation does not require the grid to deliver the full charging power in real time. The batteries store energy generated by an on-site solar energy system and provide additional power when vehicles need it.

Emaldo provided the complete integrated energy architecture for the site, managing everything from energy asset orchestration to final installation and commissioning.

“Electrification cannot stop at the major cities,” said Henri Stendalen, Sales Manager at Emaldo. “The energy solutions of the future must work everywhere, even where conditions are different. Rural communities should not have to wait for the future.”
