GWM files all-electric Wey V9X: 5.3-meter flagship SUV with dual motors

• The Wey V9X was launched as a plug-in hybrid in May, when GWM pledged to introduce all-electric and conventional hybrid versions later this year.

GWM (HKEX: 2333) has completed a regulatory filing for an all-electric version of its flagship Wey V9X, following through on a product roadmap it announced in May.

The all-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) was included in the latest batch of new-product filings released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Friday.

The V9X EV has a single filing page in the regulatory catalog. It measures 5,299 mm in length, 2,025 mm in width and 1,825 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,150 mm, and features a 6-seat layout.

Those dimensions correspond to the long-wheelbase specification of the previously launched plug-in hybrid version. The vehicle has a curb weight of 2,805 kg or 2,840 kg and a gross vehicle weight of 3,390 kg.

It is powered by 2 drive motors with peak outputs of 220 kW and 320 kW, respectively, and has a top speed of 220 km/h.

The vehicle uses a nickel-cobalt-manganese ternary lithium battery supplied by Svolt Energy, a battery supplier affiliated with GWM.

Its driving range and battery capacity have yet to be disclosed.

The Wey V9X was launched on May 18, initially only as a plug-in hybrid, with 3 variants starting at 349,800 yuan ($51,510).

The plug-in hybrid version is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and GWM's Hi4 system, and features an 800-volt high-voltage architecture. It offers a CLTC all-electric range of up to 470 km and a combined range of as much as 1,700 km.

GWM said at the time that conventional hybrid and all-electric versions of the V9X would be introduced later this year.

The V9X is the first production model based on GWM's new Global One S platform and is positioned by the company as an AI-powered luxury 6-seat flagship.

All variants come standard with a closed dual-chamber air suspension system and a large-angle rear-wheel steering system. The interior features a large dual-screen setup and zero-gravity seats.

GWM is seeking to gain share in China's highly competitive premium SUV market and last month opened reservations for the Wey V8X, a 5-seat SUV.

The Wey V8X is another production model based on GWM's Global One S platform and is positioned as a smart 5-seat flagship SUV focused on driving and handling.
