Trump Administration Asks Court to Re-evaluate Permit for Near-Complete Revolution Wind Project
Summary
The Interior Department is seeking judicial review of the permit for Revolution Wind, an offshore wind farm that finished construction in September and is already delivering power in New England. The move follows two previously overturned stop-work orders and nearly $4 billion in payments to energy companies to abandon offshore wind projects.
Washington, D.C. — Donald Trump’s Department of the Interior has asked a federal court to re-evaluate the permit for Revolution Wind, an offshore wind project that has already begun delivering electricity to families in New England, and completed construction in September.
Since 2025, the Trump administration has issued two stop-work orders to Revolution Wind. Both orders were overturned by the courts. Similar attempts to hamstring offshore wind development have all been ruled unlawful by judges. In another effort to kill the industry, Donald Trump has been paying off energy companies—to the tune of nearly $4 billion—to abandon offshore wind projects and double down on fossil fuels.
In response, Sierra Club Deputy Legislative Director Xavier Boatright issued the following statement:
“Revolution Wind is already producing affordable, reliable electricity for families across New England. The Trump administration is reckless and cruel to do this ahead of the cold winter months when the region will need offshore wind more than ever to keep utility prices stable. Why challenge something that is already darn near complete? The answer is that Trump wants to help his buddies in the fossil fuel industry bolster profits by eliminating their competition instead of delivering the affordable, clean energy Americans need.”
