MBTA Approves $310M Purchase of 20 Siemens Charger Locomotives, Including 10 Battery-Electric Units
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority board unanimously approved a $310.4 million order for 20 Siemens Charger locomotives, split between 10 diesel-hybrid and 10 battery/catenary-electric units. The new trains will replace locomotives up to 50 years old, with deliveries beginning in 2029 and full service expected by the end of 2030.
