Wabtec's 4,400 hp FLXDrive battery-electric locomotives prove ready for prime time at BHP mine

After nearly a year of operation at BHP's Jimblebar iron ore mine in Australia's Pilbara, Wabtec's 4,400 hp FLXDrive battery-electric locomotives are proving viable for heavy-haul rail. Each locomotive carries a massive 7 MWh battery pack with regenerative braking that can capture enough downhill energy to recharge the train for its return trip.
