UKBIC's 21700 Cylindrical Cells Win UN38.3 Certification for Global Shipping

UKBIC achieves UN certification for battery cell shipping of its in-house 21700 UK sovereign cylindrical cells

The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) has successfully secured UN38.3 certification for the safe and compliant shipping of its in-house 21700 UK sovereign cylindrical cells.

The certification means the cells have undergone extensive testing at an independent accredited laboratory to demonstrate they can safely withstand the stresses of transportation. The testing included altitude simulation, thermal testing, vibrations, and shock testing.

Richard LeCain, UKBIC’s CTO, said:

Achieving UN certification means our cells can be transported safely and compliantly around the world for validation, testing and customer evaluation.

“This certification reflects the quality, safety and robustness of the manufacturing processes and systems we’ve established within the facility. It also demonstrates our capability to manufacture and supply battery cells that meet internationally recognised standards, supporting innovation and accelerating the development of next-generation battery technologies.”

The cells are based on NMC 811 chemistry and are typically used at UKBIC to test and validate customer materials for benchmarking and performance purposes.

UKBIC is a delivery partner for the Battery Innovation Programme, funded by the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (DBIST) and delivered by Innovate UK.
