Renewables Capacity to Surpass Natural Gas by Summer 2027, EIA Says
New EIA data shows renewables and battery storage will add about 82.9 GW of capacity by mid-2027, pushing renewably sourced generation past natural gas. Renewable output grew 10.9% in the first half of 2026, now supplying 30.2% of U.S. electricity.
