Cold Seawater Powers District Heating in Esbjerg, Denmark With Large Electric Heat Pumps
Esbjerg, Denmark, is using large electric heat pumps to extract heat from the North Sea and feed its district-heating network, delivering 55.2 MW of heat at 90°C in a two-hour winter test. The seawater system produced a COP of 2.8 during the test, replacing part of the city's retired coal-fired combined heat and power plant.
