GM to mass-produce prismatic LMR battery cells at Tennessee plant, boosting energy density 33%
GM's Ultium Cells joint venture will make prismatic lithium manganese rich (LMR) cells at its Spring Hill, Tennessee facility, becoming the first in the world to mass-produce them. The new chemistry promises 33% higher energy density than LFP at comparable cost, with GM's first LMR-powered trucks and SUVs expected in 2028.
