Modeled Routes Show Battery-Electric Ships Beat Hydrogen Bulk Carriers on Cost
A modeling study of two Norwegian coastal bulk routes finds hydrogen-electric vessels cost 50–58% more than diesel over 15 years, while battery-electric alternatives are roughly €11.6–14.1 million cheaper than subsidized hydrogen ships. The analysis comes as GMI Group advances four hydrogen-electric bulk carriers backed by PowerCell fuel-cell orders.
