Voya Energy's Aluminum-Air Generators Face Metal Supply Chain Test for Data Centre Backup
California startup Voya Energy raised $35 million in August 2026 for combustion-free generators that use scrap aluminum, air and water to produce electricity, targeting diesel backup at data centres. The electrochemistry is proven, but a 100 MW continuous scenario would require roughly 520 tonnes of aluminum daily and generate about 1,500 tonnes of aluminum hydroxide, raising unresolved fuel logistics questions.
