BYD's workforce tops 1.02 million, surpassing Toyota, GM, Ford and Tesla combined

BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu says the automaker now employs over 1.02 million people, roughly 170,000 more than Toyota, GM, Ford and Tesla combined, with about 120,000 in R&D. The headcount surge comes despite falling vehicle sales and follows a roughly 99,000-job cut at the end of 2025.
