Summary

Basquevolt and Battera Technologies have announced a strategic collaboration to develop integrated lithium metal solid-state battery solutions for high-performance aerospace applications. The partnership combines Basquevolt's cells exceeding 400 Wh/kg with Battera's battery system expertise, targeting more than 500 Wh/kg in the coming months.

Basquevolt and Battera Technologies announce strategic collaboration to develop next-generation integrated battery solutions for high-performance aerospace applications

Vitoria-Gasteiz / Irún, October 2026. Basquevolt S.A., Europe’s leading developer of lithium metal solid-state battery technology and manufacturer of high-energy-density battery cells, and Battera Technologies S.L., a specialist in the development, manufacturing and industrialisation of advanced battery systems, today announced a strategic roadmap to jointly develop and deliver integrated battery solutions targeting aerospace applications requiring the highest levels of energy density, safety, reliability and European sourcing.

A shared ambition: European-made batteries for high-performance applications worldwide

The partnership brings together two complementary technology capabilities: Basquevolt’s design and manufacturing of next-generation electrolyte and lithium metal cells, which already deliver energy densities exceeding 400 Wh/kg, well beyond today’s commercial lithium-ion cells, and Battera’s battery system development, manufacturing and industrialisation capabilities, including experience in demanding aerospace programmes.

Building on this performance, both companies are targeting a clear roadmap to exceed 500 Wh/kg in the coming months, a performance threshold that positions their joint solution significantly ahead of any commercially available advanced battery systems globally.

Pablo Fernández Santos, Managing Director of Basquevolt, said:

This collaboration marks a pivotal step in Basquevolt’s strategy to deploy our technology in the highest-value applications where energy density is not a convenience but a critical requirement,

“Battera brings its expertise in battery pack development, manufacturing and integration, enabling high-energy-density solutions with rapid industrialisation and scalable production. Together, we are building something that does not yet exist at scale in Europe.”

Javier Llamazares, Managing Director of Battera Technologies, said:

At Battera, we believe that developing advanced battery solutions requires close collaboration between cell development and battery manufacturing from the start,

“Through this partnership, Basquevolt’s advanced lithium metal technology and cell manufacturing capabilities, together with Battera’s experience in battery pack development and manufacturing, will allow us to deliver batteries with high energy density, tailored to the needs of aerial platforms, with production capabilities and scalability not currently available in Europe.”

Industrial production targeted for 2027, with the highest European content

Beyond research and development, the partnership is oriented from the outset toward industrial-scale production. Both companies have agreed on a phased industrialisation roadmap, with series production of integrated battery solutions targeted for 2027. The full value chain, from electrolyte and cell manufacturing to pack integration and system delivery, will be anchored in Europe, delivering what both companies believe will be the highest European content of any comparable high-performance battery solution available in the market.

The partnership reflects a deliberate commitment to European technological sovereignty in advanced battery technology, at a moment when access to high-performance, domestically produced battery solutions is increasingly recognised as a strategic priority across the continent.
