Cummins – Accelera Expands Battery Production in Europe

Today, at its IAA Transportation 2026 press conference, Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), a global power solutions leader, and Accelera™ by Cummins announced plans to expand battery manufacturing in Europe, while highlighting a broad portfolio of technologies designed to give customers more choice as they navigate the evolving transportation landscape.

Accelera Expands Battery Production in Europe

The Spain facility will produce the Advanced LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery platform, designed specifically for demanding commercial vehicle applications, including buses and trucks. The batteries are engineered to help customers meet operational requirements, while advancing their decarbonization goals. The investment reflects a long-term commitment to the European market and supports the growing adoption of battery-electric commercial vehicles throughout the region.

Advancing Engine Innovation with Cummins HELM™ Platforms

The press conference also highlighted Cummins HELM™ platforms, a portfolio designed to provide customers with more technology and fuel options, while reducing complexity for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). HELM platforms support multiple markets, applications and selected fuel types, helping customers navigate evolving emissions requirements while maintaining performance, reliability and operational flexibility.

Among the technologies on display is the new Cummins HELM™ B7.2 engine, which builds on one of the company’s most successful engine platforms. The B7.2 is designed to meet evolving emissions requirements without sacrificing performance, reliability or uptime. Cummins is also showcasing the X15N heavy-duty natural gas engine in Europe for the first time, providing customers with a lower-carbon solution that can be deployed today.

Additionally, Cummins is demonstrating the hybrid capability of its X10 platform – the first Cummins HELM™ platform engine to launch in Europe. The X10 uses a common engine architecture designed to support advanced diesel and potential future fuel variants as market requirements evolve. Engineered for demanding global emissions standards, including Euro 7, the X10 combines high power density with improved fuel efficiency and can enable operators to downsize from larger 11-liter and 13-liter engines. 

Together, the B7.2, X10 and X15N demonstrate Cummins’ commitment to providing multiple pathways to help customers achieve their business and sustainability goals.

Components Technologies Enhance Performance and Efficiency

Cummins’ Components business will showcase a broad portfolio of integrated technologies designed to work across the vehicle and powertrain to enhance performance, efficiency and reliability while supporting future emissions requirements and helping reduce total cost of ownership.

The flexible U-Module aftertreatment system, designed to meet Euro 7, NS-VII and BS-VII emissions regulations, will be featured alongside the X10 and B7.2 engines. Also on display will be the Meritor® 17X HE Class 8 single rear drive axle and the MIS-09 ProTec™ Independent Front Suspension for bus and coach applications.

Together with integrated engine technologies spanning turbochargers, valvetrain solutions, fuel systems, software and electronics, these technologies demonstrate how Cummins’ system-level expertise can help optimize overall engine and vehicle performance.
