Summary

Eatron Technologies and WMG at the University of Warwick have won UK government funding to develop ZENBMS, a 48V battery management system for low-voltage electrified applications. The 12-month project, supported by Infineon Technologies, aims to advance the system to a validated B-sample demonstrator for sectors including e-bikes, urban mobility, drones and robotics.

Eatron Technologies and WMG at the University of Warwick have won UK government funding to develop ZENBMS, a 48 V battery management system for low-voltage electrified applications. The Zonal-End Node Battery Management System is one of ten projects sharing £9 million from the DRIVE35 Demonstrate competition, and pairs the two partners with Infineon Technologies for a 12-month collaborative project.

The system combines Infineon’s BMS chipset with Eatron’s embedded Battery Optimisation Software. It is aimed at sectors in which electrification is spreading beyond passenger cars, including electric two-wheelers, light urban mobility, off-highway equipment, drones and robotics. Eatron says the integrated design reduces system complexity and cost while maintaining safety and reliability.

ZENBMS is also built for zonal vehicle architectures, which simplify vehicle electronics and reduce wiring complexity.

ZENBMS aims to advance the technology from concept to a validated B-sample demonstrator at technology readiness level (TRL) 5, which Eatron says would create a platform for a broad range of 48 V mobility applications.

DRIVE35 is part of the UK Government’s Advanced Manufacturing Sector Plan, which makes £4 billion in grant funding available for automotive research, scale-up and transformation.

“Being selected for DRIVE35 funding is a significant milestone for Eatron and a strong endorsement of our vision for the future of intelligent battery management,” said Umut Genc, Eatron’s CEO. “Through ZENBMS, we are bringing together Eatron’s expertise in AI-powered battery management, Infineon’s advanced semiconductor technology and WMG’s world-leading research capabilities to create a scalable platform that can accelerate the adoption of zero-emission mobility.”
