BMZ Poland and EVE Energy Partner on LMFP Battery Platform for Heavy-Duty Electric Vehicles

Gliwice, Poland / Huizhou, China, 14th September 2026 – BMZ Poland and EVE Energy have entered into a long-term strategic cooperation that has the potential to change the battery landscape for electric commercial vehicles, vessels and other heavy-duty applications. The first major result, presented at IAA 2026 in Hanover, is VERSORA LMFP – a new platform designed to bridge the long-standing gap between LFP and NMC batteries in electric commercial vehicles.
Within the partnership, the companies are addressing one of the fundamental challenges facing the heavy-duty electrification market: until now, vehicle manufacturers have largely had to choose between LFP – offering competitive cost, safety and long service life but lower energy density – and NMC, delivering high energy density and strong performance across a wider temperature range at a premium cost. BMZ and EVE Energy are now working to close this gap by combining a new generation of LMFP cell technology with a highly modular battery platform engineered for a wide range of commercial vehicle applications.
The first major result of the cooperation is VERSORA LMFP, presented at IAA 2026. The solution extends BMZ’s VERSORA battery platform with LMFP chemistry, creating a new alternative for applications where conventional LFP does not provide sufficient performance, while NMC offers more than the application requires.

A new option between LFP and NMC
The cooperation is particularly significant for the electrification of buses, trucks, agricultural and construction machinery, specialty vehicles and vessels – applications in which battery weight, usable energy, charging time, durability and performance in difficult operating conditions directly affect vehicle economics.
LMFP technology is designed to combine important advantages of established battery chemistries. According to EVE Energy data presented at IAA, in a long-haul electric truck application an LMFP battery system can be up to 10% lighter than an equivalent LFP solution for the same energy requirement. LMFP also enables charging at up to 1 MW and 2.2C, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80% state of charge in less than 25 minutes, compared with approximately 35 minutes for LFP.
The technology offers more than 4,500 cycles to 80% state of health at 100% depth of discharge, while up to 100% of its nominal energy can be used. The target for the next generation is above 5,500 cycles. It also retains 85% of its capacity at -20°C, compared with around 75% for LFP – an important parameter for commercial vehicles operating year-round in European climates.

VERSORA: one platform, different vehicles, different chemistries
VERSORA is not designed as a single battery for a single vehicle. It is a modular platform allowing manufacturers to configure the battery system around the vehicle rather than redesign the vehicle around a predefined battery.
The platform is based on two module formats – Compact and Versus – which can be installed in different locations within a vehicle, including the floor, body and roof. Modules can be stacked, while external adapters allow them to be adapted to different mounting configurations without redesigning the battery pack itself. This distributed architecture enables manufacturers to use common components across different vehicles and vehicle families.
An important feature of the platform is the ability to offer different cell chemistries within the same mechanical architecture. VERSORA NMC and VERSORA LMFP have identical dimensions and weight, use the same mounting space and electrical interface, and operate within the same voltage classes. A vehicle manufacturer can therefore offer different battery variants for the same vehicle without redesigning its basic architecture.
This modular approach allows the battery to be scaled according to the required energy, power, voltage and available installation space. For manufacturers operating across multiple vehicle types, it also creates the possibility of using a common battery platform while selecting the chemistry best suited to each application.
VERSORA has been designed for a broad spectrum of heavy-duty applications – from electric buses, trucks and trailers to construction and agricultural machinery, specialty vehicles and vessels. BMZ’s experience in this segment is built on twelve years of battery development for electric vehicles and thousands of systems already operating in demanding real-world applications.
A platform designed to evolve with the market
The BMZ–EVE cooperation goes beyond the launch of a single product. Under the strategic framework, the companies intend to cooperate on battery solutions for electric commercial vehicles, electric vessels and other electrified applications, including safety, reliability, service life and cost optimization. The agreement is designed as a long-term global cooperation between the two companies.
VERSORA itself has also been conceived as a development platform rather than a closed product generation. Its architecture is intended to accommodate future cell chemistries and cell formats while maintaining continuity for vehicle manufacturers already using the platform.
VERSORA NMC samples are already being delivered to key BMZ customers, with series production scheduled to begin in 2027. The LMFP version is currently under development; first customer samples are planned for 2027, followed by series deliveries from mid-2028.
The strategic cooperation between BMZ and EVE Energy combines cell development, manufacturing scale and battery system engineering within one roadmap. For commercial vehicle manufacturers, it creates a new route to electrification: instead of choosing a battery chemistry first and adapting the vehicle around its limitations, they can start with the requirements of the vehicle and select the technology that fits them.
